Venereology - Merzbow (1994)

I'm just going to put it out here right now, I'm usually not the biggest fan of harsh noise music. I know, taking one look at my website you'd probably assume otherwise. Recently however I have been getting more into Merzbow who is by far my favorite artist in the genre and this album is the reason why.

Side topic but most albums/songs in the genre, to me atleast, are hard for me to really get into because I can't really get too invested because I end up being like "Oh wow more white noise with distortion, I really hope they add random effects out of the blue!" No hate to noise artists, keep up the good work but just a lot of rough with few diamonds to me personally.

Venereology is different because on the first listen I was intrigued because it was darker and louder sound than anything I had listented to before and sure enough after some googling and found out that for this album he was inspired by death metal and grindcore, which every listen since, I have been able to notice all the inspirations from those genres in this album which has made me appreciate it a lot more.

30 bucks later I own this album on vinyl now, but it is a very very good album. I like both releases of the album, but I do prefer the original version of "Slave New Desart" which is also my favorite song off the album.

To anyone who hasn't listened to harsh noise, or previously hasn't liked it, give it a try.
